A User experience of the Pro capture (ProCap) Mode in Olympus OMD Em1 MII
The pro capture mode on Olympus OMD EM1 M2 has received a lot of press in the recent past. Coming from a background of shooting action using continuous AutoFocus, I decided to give this new mode of capturing images a try. During the few times I tried ProCap mode, I have to say that the continuous autofocus tracking is also very solid and the results are superlative.
The image below was captured in the ProCap mode. Post processing of the background was done in on1 photo raw using radial blur to create the effect I was looking for. Literally and figuratively, I do love the "focus" demonstrated in the dog's expression.
In the ProCap mode, the camera starts recording continuously as soon as the focus button is pressed and continues to record for many more frames after the shutter is pressed. Multiple sequential RAW images prior to, as well as after the shutter is released are written to the memory card. We can now pick the image that best describes the moment one was looking for. I captured the above image after a single throw of the ball while playing fetch! I would not have been able to capture this moment, on the first attempt, had I depended solely on my reflexes.
Upsides: this is very useful technology to capture difficult moments in time when action is unpredictable and fast. Panasonic has a similar mode called 4K mode that generates jpegs (instead of RAW) (8MP or 16MP in the GH5)
Downsides: Really nothing significant except that this mode on the EM1 M2 is possible only while using olympus lenses (I have tested and for sure works with 17mm f1.8, 60mm macro, all pro lenses, 45mm 1.8). I do hope that this technology will be possible with panasonic/other manufacturer's lenses in the near future.
Verdict: brilliant execution just like the Panasonic 4K photo mode but with the additional ability to process raw images. Will still photography become an extension of video, by including the ability to pull out frames of still images? Earliest movies were made from multiple still images running at a fast speed. We have now come a full circle.
Thanks for sharing the crack but you need to update this version because here new version Available below;
